Plant species of Tumamoc Hill

Tumamoc has more than 300 species of plants. Thanks to the artistry, hard work and generosity of T. Beth Kinsey, you can already see a few of them in this part of the website.

The species list has all our species but many do not yet have their own webpage. We are working to include them, too. (Check the What's new? page for notice of additions.)

Flower Color: Rays – Yellow to orange-yellow, may be red-tinged, Disks – Orange-yellow

Flowering Season: Spring

Height: To 2 feet (61 cm) tall

Description: The flower heads are 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) wide and 1 inch (2.5 cm) long with 0 to 12 ray flowers. The bracts are dotted with dark red glands. The leaves are green, opposite below, alternate above, deeply divided into 3 main linear lobes, and embedded with foul-smelling oil glands at the base and tip of the lobes.

Special Characteristics

Foul-smelling – The crushed foliage has a strong, unpleasant odor.
