Description: Santa Catalina burstwort has reddish-brown stems. The yellow flowers have 5 petals, 5 sepals, 5 stamens, and 5 styles. Leaves are alternate and toothed with hairs. The fruits are winged and spiny.

Special Characteristics

This rare perennial is found in the U.S. only in the Santa Catalina and Tucson Mountains. It also occurs in Sonora, Mexico.
